Developing a Skill-Set for a “Project Doctor”
Steps towards the Development of a Standardized Methodology for Troubled Project Management
Is it possible to classify project troubles and solutions to them? Trying to develop
a standardized approach of diagnosis, therapy and of healing – can we be successful
at all? The PMBOK Guide defines the term Project as: “A project is a temporary endeavor
to create a unique product or service.” Project Management is defined: “Project management
is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet
project requirements.” If a project is a unique entity in itself can there be a standardized approach
valid for most or maybe even all troubles?
The question is whether we will be able to develop a repository—a structured
collection—of methods and solutions, which can be applied by, project managers to
solve troubles or be used by consultants and trainers to support project managers.
